Planning The Artist's Image - Miss Georgiou

The artists overall image is essential in creating a successful music video as it allows the audience to connect. If the artist is relateble then the audience will build a better relationship with them and be able to see them in a more mutual way. If the artist is alot more dressed up and glamorous then the audience may feel alot more separated from them, but only in an envious way which may overall create alot of fans just because they will want to be the artist and live the same successful life.

Make up is a crucial part of our music video as we ultimately have a female lead artist. We plan to have her wear very neutral make up and have very subtle nude tones throughout most of our music video, except when she goes on a date with her partner in the music video. This type of music video is very conventional to the indie genre as it remain very natural and true to the real look of most people in the audience. 'Just a trick of light' relates to the very natural theme that we want to create for our artist. This is due to the lyrics having the word light inside it which conclude to the audience that this particular artist is very natural and full of innocence. This is what made is decide as a group that a more simple make up look would be more appropriate for this type of artist. The fact that it isn't extremely fake or over the top would mean that it fits the indie genre perfectly as this particular genre focuses on nature and being unique, so having an artist that appears very down to earth and not 'artifical' looking will invite more people to watch her music video and appreciate her more as an artist as other genres would want the artist to look as perfect and artificial as possible to appeal to the audience and make them jealous of an artist, when in this case we want the audience to feel as though they can relate to the artist in a positive more friendly way due to the fact that there looks will most likely be similar to each other. Being a very simplistic and natural look it relates strongly to the overall feel of the image as it enables the artist to feel as though they can relate the natural artist to the natural setting and this overall makes the music video appear as if it is involving the audience due to the fact that they are able to relate strongly to the artists image and the settings used. 

The lighter colours will be used at the beginning of the music video on the artists clothes to represent the innocence that the artist now has at the moment. This particular part of her image relates to the lyrics of the song 'All that I could see was white.' This again relates to her being very innocent and pure. Which is overall image I want to give to the audience which is why in the scene where the couple first meet the artist will be wearing a cream/white jumper. This is conventional to the indie genre as wool knit jumpers are a common feature of the indie genre, not just because of the colour but because as a whole knitted jumpers are more likely to appear as being very natural and cosy looking which is a theme that the indie genre follows well. This is because it allows the artist to be seen wearing a piece of clothing made of natural material which is another typical convention of the indie genre as most things in the music video are appeared and presented as being very cosy and natural. The indie genre is known for being full of vintage things and having a very old knitted jumper will overall fit in with the codes and conventions of the indie genre as it what makes the indie genre unique and different to over genres as in this case, in this genre precisely the more layers are that the artist wears is what makes it more conventional whereas in other pop genres for example the less the artist wears is what is stereotypical expected. The artist is also represented as innocent as it allows the audience to see her in white which will stereotypical display her as being an innocent person with good intentions throughout the music video, this will build a relationship with the audience as they will see her in a different light and create a strong relationship, which will then lead to her having great sympathy thrown at her through the lose of her partner in the music video. This overall image of being innocent relates to the entire style of the music video as it allows the flow of the beauty and the simplistic visions to be supported by the innocence of the music artist.

The particular hair styles portrayed in the music video will involve a number of different braid and curls that leave the hair looking very naturally beautiful. All hairstyles used in the music video will be represented as a style that didn't take long to do. They will appear as very easy and accessible hair styles to everyone as well as being very beauty and simplistic which is the overall theme of this particular music video. This will actually allow the audience to feel as though they are able to perform the same sort of hairstyles for themselves and this will contribute to the sort of theme that I am trying to create which is allowing the audience to feel as involved as possible. This hairstyle relates to the indie genre as it allows us to see the ongoing effect of having the simple braid that are very common in the indie genre as they create very attractive looking hair styles. It also relates to the indie genre as it allows the audience to feel as though this artist is very simplistic and doesn't need expensive blow drys etc to look good. Which makes them feel assured that they can follow along to do the simple hairstyles and still look good themselves.  The lyrics also contribute to how the audiences hair is displayed through the line 'I'm purified' this enables me to look at what the real artist meant by this and I then made it accessible for her to be presented this way through the natural hairstyles that the artist will have throughout my music video. The artist is portrayed as being very beautiful and the audience will look up to that as they inspire to be just like her. In this case they are able to as the majority of the hairstyles used and created on the artist will be very easy and enjoyable for the audience to recreate themselves. This relates to the overall style of the music video as it allows the audience to view the artist as creative which is overall the main aim of the music video that will relate strongly to the indie genre conventions. 

The particular costume items will not only be clothing but footwear also. Here we are able to see an image of wellies. This is because we aim for our artist to be able wear wellies as she embarks on her performance aspect of the music video. The lyrics 'was buried underneath' fit in with the indie genre as it displays that at times she is feels emotionally trapped aswell as being physically dirty. This means that when creating the artists image I was able to incorporate the first thing that I thought would be suitable to the idea of the artist being in a messy environment and that was having her wear wellies. This will create the image of her being very adventurous and the audience will relate to this as they will envision her as a true indie artist as many of the scenes will be portraying her as very intact with nature. This fits the codes and conventions of the indie genre as it allows the audience to view the artist as being very adventurous and in touch with nature, this overall is something that is very typical to the indie genre as the setting and location is usually in the outdoors and areas where things will get very dirty and messy, for example fields and forest areas. This will make the audience feel like they are able to be more like there favourite artist by also following this rule by being very artistic and adventurous Which overall relates to the theme of being able to create a very gentle, beautiful and outdoorsy music video just through the use of wellies alone.

Overall the target audience will be able to relate to the artist through the use of the very commonly used outfits, hairstyles and makeup. The way that the artist is represented is very natural and neutral. The fact that we are able to see the artist in these particular costumes allows the audience to feel as though they are able to be be just like her. By buying very affordable clothes just like hers and by toning down the makeup or even by being more creative with the hair styles she uses.
