Planning Magazine Advert - Miss Miller

The Magazines adverts are crucial in distributing the artist all over the world. They promote an artist in a way that allows different audience members to be tempted to by the advert. Depending on what particular magazine someone is reading the niche audiences of the gossip magazines and the fishing magazine etc, will all get a chance to witness the artists promotion. I am creating a draft for my main magazine advert for my own artist, being able to plan the advert before hand really allows me to be more organised for the real thing. I am lucky enough to create something that has a lot of depth and then figure out and plan how to make this look good like person, using the real images of my artist and a real life location to fit in with this.

The colours that are visible on the actual image used in my planned magazine advert is actually very neutral it demonstrates the kind of songs that will be played on the album, I decided to do this as it would portray the nature and how much the audience would be able to relate to her as an artist as the colours of the water and the bricks are very dull being murky brown and grey, these types of colours are typically seen as being natural and relate to the theme of the indie genre as the audience are typically able to relate to the colouring as it is something they expect to see themselves everyday. In addition to this the colours of the font are blue, which again not only stands out from the background but it connotes peace and love, which displays the type of attitude that out artist Amy-Michaela wants to create. The audience will pick up on the connotations of the colours and associate this particular album with calming, emotional and relaxing songs that may appeal to a target audience.

The setting used in my planned magazine advert is in a Forest area which includes a small stream and bridge which occupied a train track above. This whole setting fits the indie genre very well as it matches the typical setting you would find in an indie music video, this particular type of genre has very strict conventions all being rather natural and vintage. In this case the natural and raw setting used in the magazine advert relates rather well to the types of settings used in the real indie music video that we are planning to create this overall supports the codes and conventions of the indie genre and the audience are able to immediately recognise it as an indie genre, incising them to buy the album when it is released. In addition to this the mise-en-scene I plan to add into my real magazine advert relates well to the theme of vintage, I plan on allowing her to wear wellies, this type of costumes gives a massive incentive into what type of person my artist is, being someone who isn't afraid to get dirty, proves that they are i  touch with natural and appreciate the countryside and everything natural, this will convince the audience that my artist, Amy-Michaela is a 'normal' woman, who isn't glamorous 24/7. This makes the audience feel as though the artist is someone who is down to earth and can be relatable as they do not wish to be seen as very glamours and witnessed in a luxurious setting.

The image planned to be used, is one of my artist, Amy-Michaela standing underneath bridge, I will take some shots of her standing or sitting under this bridge by the water and have her name above her. The actual image will see the artist looking vulnerable this is because the audience will be able to see her at a distance which makes it appear as though she is in a very isolated setting. To conclude this means that her surroundings will look very big compared to her as a person, the audience will then take not of the fact that this artist is showing herself in a particular way that allows them to see her in a light that shows a range of innocence due to the fact that she is seen being displayed alone and in an isolated setting. The audience will be able to see the connotations of this image ultimately being able to represent the artist as being in 'new footing' she is putting herself on the line for her audience in a new and scary way, she has basically just written out all her feelings into these songs and now presents them to her audience who will enjoy the vulnerable presentation as the younger audience especially, will feel alot more insecure at there particular age and not feel like they have discovered them self yet, seeing there artist stand alone in a setting encourages them that they are not even alone themselves this will convince them to participant further and create an even stronger relationship with the artist and end up wanting to buy the album just through the image alone.

The layout in the planned magazine advert is aimed to be very clear to the audience. All information out the artist is being planned to be placed directly above the indie artist. Her name will be the main focus, this will be to attract already loyal fans that may not realise her album is out yet, after seen her name to abruptly it will hopefully persuade the audience to buy into the artist straight away. In continuations from this we are able to see the other relevant information for the audience on the left hand side over the bricked bridge. Crucial information such as release dates, songs included and rating all are placed here to act as additional support which helps the audience to decide if this is an album that would useful to them. Finally the layout of the image and the artists position is directly in the middle it helps to contribute to the fact that the artist is someone who is very important when buying this album as ultimately this is the person you are supporting and enjoying while taking the time to study this magazine advertisement.

The typography I plan to use in my music video magazine advert is one that appears alot more flowly and natural then a typical new times roman font. As an indie artist I want Amy-Michaela to appear as someone who is completely natural and very true to herself. This is why i want the writing to appear as thou is was handwritten with a x makes on the I of her name. This allows the audience to see Amy in a different light they may admire her for being so personal with her font. Not only does this font appear personal but it also continues to allow the audience to see the artist as someone how has written there 'diary' on this album. She not only writes her music for the heart but she designs her album the same.
Carrying on from typography the particular language used to appeal to the target audience is rather successful to this genre. The album name being 'desolation' relates to the inner meaning being sadness. When the audience learn of this they not only think of the sadness this album may have but the true feelings involved. They may think of this album and straight away think of real life, or something traumatic they have experienced. This allows the audience to be able to relate further to the artist as they are able to see her as someone who suffers from things such as depression and anxiety too, not just the typical perfect pop artist that doesn't like to show any time of emotions as it is considered a weakness. The audience can learn from Amy-Michaela just like a friend.

Overall as mentioned throughout there are a number of connotations that exist in my magazine advert. For example as mentioned before the blue font to represent the peacefulness and realness of this album, this can also be supported bu the setting being a natural stream and forest area which appeals to the target audience and lovers of the indie genre as it is something they really want and expect to see. Her costume being a dress, tights and boots all connote and fit the indie genre as it allows the artist to be seen as quirky. Her hair is in a braid which connotes her originality as she is seen as someone who likes to be creative with things. The audience may connote this as being creative in her music which appeals to them as most of the target audience want to see something a little different and not the same as mainstream music.

I liked being able to draw and plan my magazine advert analysis as it allowed to be a lot more prepared. I now know the exact, costume and setting and font style that i want which makes it easier for me to organise my artist into particular poses I want. This will allow me to be able to save time by just setting up my artist into the exact position i want. In terms of photoshop i am now able to spend less time thinking about where i want everything and just focus on how to use the photoshop and make everything look as realistic as possible. Furthermore This particular planning has aloud me to consider how to use a camera effectively and precisely. I need to remember to make sure only relevant things are included in the scene, i might not include anything irrelevant or anything that will lower my grade such as camera equipment or even people in the background, as long as I am able to produce  something of high quality standard then i will overall be proud of myself for creating a successful magazine advert cover.

  1. You have provided a good analysis of your plan, explaining why you have chosen certain elements to use within your advert. You have considered the connotations of each of the elements identified, and explained how it might appeal to the audience and help them build a relationship with the artist. You have mentioned generic conventions and thought about the importance and benefit of planning ideas

    You need to:
    1) Watch your SPAG as you are making silly mistakes (e.g. by instead of buy)
    2) Consider style of language

  2. 3) Mention where you have taken inspirations from

  3. You have mentioned style of language but still not referred to inspirations making this a sound post
